My husband has always loved cats! His mother had at least one cat the entire time he was growing up. She has cat figurines and decor all over her house. So naturally my husband grew up with a love of cats. I personally have never really cared for cats. My family never had any pets my entire life, so I did not grow up around animals. However I would say I’m more of a dog person.
In may of 2016 I decided to get my husband a kitten for his birthday. A girl I worked with put me in touch with a girl who does cat adoption. I contacted her and told her I wanted a kitten, but I asked for specific things. I wanted a male, grey,
blue-eyed kitten. I had never adopted a pet before so I was a little blind to the process. She informed me that the best thing I could do was go to Petsmart on adoption day and see what kittens they had. She told me that usually you end up feeling a connection with a cat instead of picking them out by their looks.
I followed her advice and found a little four-month old calico kitten named Rosie. Eventually we ended up changing her name because we didn’t feel like it really fit her feisty personality. There was a huge dog barking at her through her cage, and she was as calm as could be. Starring down the dog like “What are you going to do about it?” I thought it was hilarious. So I got her out of the cage and she snuggled right into me. I held her for about 30 minutes and decided to put her back and think about it. When I put her back into the cage she reached her paw out to me and my heart melted. There was no way I was going to leave her there. I bought her right then!
My husband was so excited to have her! She immediately became our little baby. We spoil her completely rotten even to this day. She is such a loving cat, but only when she wants to be lol. She plays fetch. Yes fetch, like a dog! She is constantly kneading my furniture, no matter how many times I spray her with water for it. The quote “This is why we can’t have nice things.” comes to mind. Before having a pet I never understood how they really become part of your family, but it’s so true! She makes our little family complete and I can’t image it without her!
